Badge Visual Previews: Problems and FAQs

Check out our most frequently asked questions around badge visual previews when writing a badge in the Badge Zone.

For more information on badge visual previews, please see this guide.

Do I need to make a visual preview every time I write a new badge?

Rather than creating a new design for each individual badge, we recommend using a set of organisational visuals templates at each layer of the Badge Standard. This makes your collection of badges consistent and recognisable, and saves you time when writing each new badge.

Please see Badge Standard Visual Templates for more information.

I have written multiple badges and the visual designs look different, why is this?

This is usually due to the badges being written at differing layers of the RSA Badge Standard, which is selected in Section 1 of the form.

Each layer of the Standard carries its own visual identity, so this affects the design of badge visuals. For more information, please see How are the different layers of the RSA Badge Standard represented in badge visuals?

Why can’t I choose Brand Colour 2?

The form will prevent you from choosing brand colour 2 if you have selected the ‘Engage’ or ‘Lead’ layers of the Badge Standard in Section 1 because these layers have fixed design colours.

For a quick view on how the Badge Standard is represented in visuals, please see this guide. For more detailed information on customisable elements of badge visuals relative to the Badge Standard, please see Badge Visuals Explained

Why can’t I change the logo size on my visual preview?

The preview function is designed as a basic preview only and is a mechanism for you to supply your preferred branding to us. Don’t worry - we often carry out work on new badge visuals prior to publishing, which usually includes scaling the logo.

If you require a mock up of your visual to sign off logo usage ahead of a badge being published, please leave a comment on Section 7 of the form at your earliest convenience when writing the badge.

I uploaded a logo but it hasn’t made a preview, what’s going on?

Please ensure that the logo file you have uploaded is a PNG or JPEG image. Unsupported file formats, including Word or PDF documents containing images, can cause an error that prevents the form from working.

Please see Logo Requirements for Badge Visuals for more information on supplying logo files to us. If you do not have logo files in supported formats, don’t hesitate to reach out and we will do our best to support you.

I uploaded two logos, why can I only see one on my preview?

Badge visual previews display ‘standard branding’ only, which features a primary logo and up to two brand colours.

If you are requesting dual branding and have uploaded a secondary logo for your badge, this will not feature on your visual preview and your visual design will be created separately by the Badge Nation team. Please see What are the options for dual branding badge visuals? For more information.

Why does my published badge look different to the preview in the Badge Zone?

Your badge visual preview is generated based on your inputs to five elements on the badge writing form and is not necessarily what will be published to the destination issuing platform. We often carry out work on badge visuals prior to publishing to ensure they look as good as possible and align with the RSA Badge Standard.

It is very common for the Badge Standard layer to change throughout the Quality Assurance process, especially for an organisation’s first badges. In cases where a change in layer has taken place and the original branding choices submitted no longer adheres to the Badge Standard, or the supplied branding colours cannot be published at the Badge Standard, we will amend your visual design before publishing. This can sometimes include changes to brand colours 1 and 2, or uploaded logo.

While we will always try our best to sign off any changes with you ahead of publishing, if you have had a badge published and are concerned about the visual, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
