What are the options for dual branding badge visuals?

Our Badge Visual Builder can create visuals with ‘standard branding’. This is where the badge visual features a primary logo with up to two brand colours. More information and jargon busting for badge visuals can be found here.

If you are working in collaboration with another organisation for the activity that the badge relates to, you may want to consider if you would like both organisations’ logos to feature on the badge visual – this is called ‘dual branding’.

Read on to find out about best practice, how to request dual branding, and design options available to you.

Best Practice

    • Confirm dual branding is required

Some partner / funder organisations will specifically request that their logo appears on any design materials produced through the activity they are funding. In these cases, they will usually provide you with a brand pack containing instructions for appropriate logo usage.

Featuring funders in dual branding is not always required, and we recommend caution if you are likely to seek alternative funding for the same badges in the future.

    • Ensure that any logos are gathered with permission from the partner organisation.

It is your responsibility to make sure you are using appropriate logos on your badge. Badge visuals published with incorrect logo / brand usage opens Badge Nation up to copyright or intellectual property (IP) infringement, so please ensure you only submit logos to us that have been supplied with the cooperation of your partner organisation.

    • Allow time for sign off

Organisations lending their branding to partnership designs will often want to approve the final design before the badge is published. Please consider the additional time that this might add to the process.

    How to request dual branding

If you need dual branding to appear on the badge you are writing, you can state this by selecting 'Yes' in section 7 of the badge writing form.

Then, upload both logos that you would like to appear on the badge. Please upload your primary using the first 'Choose file' button, and your secondary below.

The Badge Nation team will create your visual for you and it will be available to view when your badge has been published to your issuing platform of choice. To ensure we get it right, please leave us a comment with any information we should know about this design.

If you or a partner organisation needs to sign-off the design ahead of publishing, please leave us a comment on this section when you submit your badge for Quality Assurance, and we will contact you with a mock up.

    Design options

There are two options available for dual branding which you can let us know your preference for when leaving a comment on the section:

Two logos appear as primary in top half of badge

This is useful where brand guidelines require two logos to appear of equal size.

    Primary and secondary logos:

This is useful where an organisation is delivering / administering the activity but are partnered with, or funded by, another organisation that requires recognition on the visual.

We will default to the branding theme of the primary logo when creating visuals, meaning that colour scheme will be dominant unless we are told otherwise.
